Our Virtual Museum
We are thrilled to have launched a virtual museum for Augusta County, Staunton and Waynesboro, Virginia. Now you can relax in your individual setting and begin a journey where you will view text and images gathered from historical and current sources with photographs of original artifact, some of which has been in private family collections that date to a time before the region was visited by anyone other than Native Americans.
During your virtual journey you will explore the history and culture of a land where people from all over the world have descended. Thousands of frontier families made Augusta County, with it vast lands and large lands grants, inviting to settlers to make their homesteads. Second, third, fourth generations and beyond trace their family roots to Augusta County.
Often inspired by the eccentrics in literature and the family tales of magical realism, romantic, and surreal metaphors, it is our hope that our visitors will uncover historical underpinnings and inspirations that will be the subject of family conversation that extends far beyond this virtual journey.
Your virtual journey with us will be a self-guided research adventure where you will experience the opportunity to view artifact that defined the culture and shaped the history of Augusta County, Staunton and Waynesboro.
So, we invite you to enjoy our virtual museum as we present artifacts, people, places, and events and note how they fit into their specific time in the history of Augusta County, Staunton or Waynesboro.
History is everywhere. Travel with us as we capture the past and record new history for our future generations. Our virtual museum is a work in progress and will continue forever as we continue to make new history!
This virtual museum depends on patrons to provide information, imagery or artifacts for photography and if you are so inclined, momentary donations. If you have artifact for donations they are welcomed and will become a part of the Augusta County Historical Society Collection.
Please enjoy our virtual museum and then visit us in Augusta County, Staunton and Waynesboro, Virginia where you can sleep over for a few nights, dine, shop, see our many attractions and enjoy wine, cider and beer made right here in our city or county.
Be careful because you may fall in love with our casual culture and find yourself buying you next home!
