Why Our Virtual Museum

Please note the reference to the term “our” when you learn about “our” Virtual Museum. Why? Because the development of this virtual museum is a team effort where everyone must take ownership if the site is to mature.
The website www.augustacountyvirtualmuseum.org is owned by a non-profit corporation ACSW, INC that was established by Margie and Gordon Barlow to attract like mined individuals to participate in the collection and publishing on this virtual museum pages of information that will document the history of Augusta County, Staunton and Waynesboro, Virginia. It will be managed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Because new history is written daily and yesterday’s history is continually uncovered, our virtual museum will never be a final product, however once our virtual museum is built out by volunteers and new volunteers are in place to continue adding new information, it is a dream that someday our site will be a subsidiary of the August County Historical Society.

Sponsorship – Participation

The Augusta County, Staunton and Waynesboro Virtual Museum, while the vision of Margie and Gordon Barlow was designed and development by Chris Beard, 373 Design, Culpeper, Virginia, will be a product of the research, writing and imagery of individuals, companies and institutions and government that believes in the value of compiling and recording the past and the future. You are invited to be a part of this effort as we grow our virtual experience for Augusta County, Staunton and Waynesboro, Virginia. Financial contribution, while welcomed as a non-profit donation, are not a prerequisite for participation in the development of our Augusta County, Staunton and Waynesboro Virtual Museum. Today ACWS, Inc is endowed with sufficient funds to develop and maintain the site in 2022.

How will Volunteer Participation Work?

Our website has a HOME PAGE that provides navigation buttons we will call Virtual Museum categories. These category buttons become navigation tools as viewers visit our Virtual Museum.
When you click on a category button you will see one or more pages appear.
Each page must be built out with information and pictures. (IMPORTANT: THE LISTED CATEGORIES AND PAGES MAY BE EXPANDED AS VOLUNTEERS WORK TO DEVELOP OUR VIRTUAL MUSEUM).
Virtual Museum team member(s) will be solicited to volunteer to research and develop a page.
Once research and development is complete, the team may access our Virtual Museum Word Press database with a password and upload text and photos or provide the text and photos to a team of volunteers that are currently in place to accomplish this function.

Volunteer Recognition

The work of the volunteer(s) will be acknowledge at the beginning of each page and an secure contact address will be provided for viewers to provide information or photos, make comments or ask questions.
